Engaged at Home

How to create a special engagement experience while the world is stopped.

Taking that beautiful next step in your relationship is so special and while I consider myself a professional proposal planner and guide people to create these unique (to them) engagements, I’m humbly stepping down from my platform of negativity around home engagements (when done With a lack of planning) and sharing ways you can still have the best engagement experience during this time of uncertainty.

I’ve always told my clients that it doesn’t have to be a whole big showy thing, just what makes sense for you, because everyone’s relationship is unique. For some couples that is a big romantic gesture, and that’s OKAY. And for others it’s a romantic seemingly normal everyday dog walk, and that’s also equally as OKAY! That being said, if someone can professionally capture that moment, it really is so special to look back on and have that captured.

I do have strategies where home proposals can be captured by my professional photographer friends, so have no fear if that’s for you. If not, please utilize self timers on smartphones and record it or, one of my favorite strategies with at home pics because I’m not a professional photographer, using our GoPro.

Strategies for a thoughtful social distance proposal:

  • Nature

-A majority of public parks, hiking trails, etc. are still available to use, so take advantage of those beautiful outdoor spots.

  • Your Home

-There are many customizable areas in a home. You can take advantage of yard areas, decks, a balcony, spare rooms, etc.

  • Local Carryout/Delivery

-Take advantage of local restaurants while supporting their business and order from that fancy restaurant you would’ve gone to dinner at as part of an original proposal plan. Or maybe you can go casual and make it something fun or thoughtful like your favorite date night dining spot.

  • Dress Accordingly

-Put in the effort. A lot of us are in casual loungewear more days than not, so unless you have a plan that involves being active outdoors, get dressed up. It will not go unnoticed.
